When it comes to healthy eating, my motto is eat this, not don’t eat that.

Raise your hand if you know what the “this” is??

Yes, smarty pants!  It’s VEGETABLES!  By now I’m sure you guys know I’m completely obsessed with getting enough vegetables into my diet.  Most Americans don’t even come CLOSE to the ideal amount of vegetables that need to be consumed in a day – anywhere between 6 1/2 and 13 1/2 CUPS!

Amazing Website & App: Fooducate

My good friend introduced me to an amazing app called Fooducate.

Have you heard of it?

Basically you can scan an item at the store (or type it into the website)  and the app responds with a grade in terms of how healthy the food is.  You are also given reasons why certain foods are not healthy.

Three Nutrition Books That Had a Profound Impact on Me

I love a good health/nutrition/wellness book.   If you follow my blog then there is a good chance you do too!  

But trying to pick one out of the hundreds (or thousands?) out there can be daunting.  So today I want to share three books that had a profound effect on me when I began my health journey a few years ago.    They are all easy reads and don’t get too technical, yet are extremely powerful in their messages.

Cauliflower Crust Pizza

Pizza night.  We have it once a week.  Let me set the picture:

The kids get Amy’s pizza with a side of edamame (for some protein) and a serving of vegetables while I concoct something a bit more nutritious for me and Brian.  Then, for the entire dinner we both longingly eye our children’s plates hoping for a bit of leftover scraps.

Sad, right?

Quinoa Meatballs

In my prior (to healthy eating) life, if I wanted something for dinner, I’d buy it.  Plain and simple.

So if I was in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs, off to the market I’d go to buy frozen ones.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that.  Sometimes.

We all have those days (or weeks) where home cooking just ain’t happenin’.
